Expert Tips

Our top red wine stain removal tip is this; don't let the stain dry! Red wine will become harder to remove later if you don't treat immediately. We would also encourage you not to dry a stained item until you have managed to remove the red wine stain to your own satisfaction

Put some salt on the stain as quickly as possible to soak up the red wine. Dab this with a dry cloth. Be careful not to spread the stain around even more.
Remember to try and dab the stain inwards to prevent spreading it, and don't try to rub the red wine stain out with the cloth or you will smear the stain and make it larger.

Blot the area you have spilled the red wine again with a new paper towel dampened with water. Repeat step 2 if necessary

What causes red wine stains?

The pigment in wine; an Anthocyanin, is from the skins of the grapes. These anthocyanins are the cause of red wine stains, as they easily attach themselves to any fibrous items.

Vanish Oxi Action Powder is formulated to attack these Anthocyanins directly.
